Mockingbird Academy is a fiction story that comes partly from a grade school teacher who, back in 1979, expressed a desire to open up the education to more than just the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic. She wanted to bring in more advanced topics as bonus features in her program.
We understand that this can’t happen in a classroom with one teacher and several grades, and the usual discipline problems (possibly we had more than our fair share). But what if we turn things around, and have a school with only two students who are motivated to learn, and the usual discipline problems are almost nonexistent?
