Coulomb’s Law

F = k_e \dfrac {q_1 q_2} {r^2}

  • F is the force between the two particles, negative if attractive and positive if repulsive
  • q_1 and q_2 are the charges of the two particles.
  • r is the distance of separation between the two particles.
  • k_e is a constant of proportionality that will depend on the units chosen

Finally, compare the Coulomb’s Law to the Law of Universal Gravitation. Can we generalize these two laws?
