Entropy is a measure of the unavailability of a system’s thermal energy for conversion into mechanical work.

Entropy is also explained as being a quantification of the randomness or disorder of a system.

Entropy increases when a solid melts to a liquid and it increases again when the liquid vaporizes to become a gas.
