The idea behind mod is a calculation that looks for the remainder.

13 mod 4 = 1

Start with 13 and we keep subtracting for until we have something that is less than 4:

• 13
• 9
• 5
• 1

Possibly in Grade School you may have done math where you would report

13 ÷ 4 = 3 remainder 1
