Structure

This is very difficult to explain.

We build structure by stating what rules must be followed. Structure is built by putting rules in place. It’s a bit like chess, where the existence of the rules make the game playable.

Now, it is possible–and it frequently happens–that someone, for the sake of brevity, mentions an idea like “Order” and says it is part of the structure. When they say that, they are taking all the ideas required for “Order” and adding them in our collection of rules.

A sort of example: we want a collection of even positive numbers.

  • Rule #1: we are allowed to write “2”
  • Rule #2: for any number in our collection, the number two greater than that number is also in our collection (for every x in the collection, there exists x+2)
